Project Challenge

Take a Summer Road Trip with the Row by Row Experience!

Hey there everyone!

Can you believe summer is finally here? The sun is shining bright, the grass is green, and it’s that time of the year where everyone loves to plan fun family vacations. Have you ever thought of planning your summer trip based on all the amazing quilt shops that are all over the U.S. and Canada?

Just imagine taking a road trip from state to state, and exploring all the different AGF collections and notions that shops carry. In addition to that, you would get a free pattern to make your own quilt and you would have a chance to win fabrics. Sounds like a dream, doesn’t it? Well, this dream trip is possible with The Row by Row Experience!

Needle in row small

You can be part of The Row by Row experience by visiting one of the participating shops throughout the country and picking up the free pattern of their specially designed row. As your road trip continues, you can start combing the rows to create a summer quilt filled with memories from your travels! Plus, if you’re the first person to present your quilt at a participating shop, you’ll win a stack of 25 Fat Quarters.

We’re excited about this year’s Row by Row because our friends from Needle in a Fabric Stash, have created their “Home Sweet Home” themed row based on Sew Caroline’s Happy Home Collection combined with a few other AGF prints. But the fun doesn’t end there. To celebrate the summer and many of the upcoming AGF collections; Needle in a Fabric Stash will also be hosting a few giveaways with our fabrics throughout the summer! Stay tuned to their Instagram and Facebook for a chance to win some fabrics for your stash!

Sara Lawson's Dresden Plate Dress

"Okay, I've got an idea...what about a dress made from Angela's Drawn Destiny in Linen..but the dress has appliqued Dresden plates on it? I think I would use Pure Elements on the Dresdens. What do you think?"

These were Sara's words after I e-mailed her about some of our newest fabric collections.

--

It's no secret that fabric companies often collaborate with many bloggers and designers for projects and tutorials. Since starting my work at AGF, I am just now beginning to break the ice with them and find out their style, preferences and personalities. Sara, thus far, is one of many who have left a great impression on me.

I'm not sure what I envisioned when she described her idea, but that's irrelevant now because the finished dress is far better than anything I could have pictured!

Sara will be debuting this statement dress at the Houston Quilt Market next month. And I, for one, can't wait to see it in person.

Thanks again Sara!

Project Challenge 2012 - Challnge # 6 - Placemat

ProjectLOGO_finalHello ladies, (& gents if you're out there join us!)

It is that time of the month when one challenge ends and a new one begins. Last month you all made wine bottle covers and included a drawstring technique with some embroidery (for bonus points.) Well as always ladies... you exceeded our expectations. You can look at the entries here.

We are in the middle of voting and some fierce words are being thrown around as to who is the winner.... you know we always get along but during this time of the month... well let's just say we all have "different" opinions..lol. I mean this in a good way because you all are so great.

There is a decline in entries... Remember that in order to qualify for the sewing machine at the end of the year you must have completed all 12 projects (you can turn them in later.. you just wouldn't qualify to win the 10 half-yards)

So now on to June's challenge.. A placemat.

Project Challenge 2012 - Challenge # 5 - Wine Cover

ProjectLOGO_finalBy now I have come to LOVE and HATE Project Challenge 2012. I look at all the projects submitted and I feel like it is picking my favorite child. You all have made such different and beautiful bags that I know we will all be cringing during voting time.

I love the fact that each one of you created bags with so many different functions and all different sizes. This one was by far the most varied challenge and I think you guys are doing really well thinking outside the box.

You can see all of the entries here

This month we have Mother's day and many of us have family dinners to show appreciation to the many mothers in our families. So we thought what way to incorporate a challenge and possible Mother's Day gift than in a wine cover/bag project. This is a great gift for Mother's day (of course with or without a bottle.. but with is always nicer) because it works well as a personal gift to someone in your family or for you children's teacher/coach/sitter etc.

AGFprojectChallenge_May

Above we used the Rhapsodia collection. Fabric used is Artistan Ruby, Boho Sitches Sand, Frida's Dream Red and Terre Stamps Smoke.

So now to the nitty gritty of the challenge.

1. Must use the drawstring technique.

2. BONUS if you add an embroidery technique.

2. Must use Art Gallery Fabrics ONLY to make the projects.

Project Challenge 2012 - Challenge #4 - Saddle Bag

ProjectLOGO_finalAlright ladies I know the table runner was a toughie and therefore we decided to give you a small break this month.

April's challenge is a "Saddle Bag." The term "saddle" refers  that fact that this purse is worn to one side. This bag features a long strap so that runs across the chest and a unique shape.

This is a free month... So that means that we give you a break in the requirements and on size. You can let your imagination run wild and create the bag however you want it...

SaddleBag

We used Chocolate Cherry Oval elements for this bag and accented the style with a tassel. Simple and cute, right?  The strap is made using White Champs Elysee's from the Dreaming in French collection.
